The Importance of Fasting
Fasting is something we do as worship to God, to minister to Him, glorify Him, and partner with Him to see His will done in our lives, our families, and our city. Fasting is not a ritual practiced to earn God’s favor, merit, or approval, but flows from a humility, our longing for Him, and the move of His hand in our lives and the world around us.
Times of fasting with intercessory prayer form the foundation of our response to God as a Church, setting into motion the restoration of God’s people back to Himself, awakening our hearts and spirits to Him, and returning exiles to the house of God.
Fasting can be abstention from many different things, but the Bible describes it as abstaining from food for a select amount of time. During Seek First, we encourage everyone to fast as they feel led, whether that be from food or another activity entirely. You don’t have to fast for the entire week, but if you are able to abstain for the week, we would love for you to pursue this goal alongside us!
If you have any physical or mental health circumstances that may prevent you from fasting, please consult with a doctor before you undertake this endeavor or refrain from participating at this time.
