We want to begin the New Year by seeking the Lord’s presence and guidance through 24 hours dedicated to prayer and fasting as a church family. Scripture teaches that night-and-day prayer and fasting is deeply connected to the release of God’s power (Ezra 8:23, Joel 2:12, Matthew 9:14-15). We will be seeking God’s Spirit to awaken our own hearts, to unify us as a church body, and to give us God’s vision as we step into 2023.
These 24 hours of prayer and fasting will incorporate intercessory prayer, which means to pray for needs on behalf of the people around us. We see the Biblical understanding and reference to intercessory prayer in Luke 18:7-8 and Isaiah 62:6-7. We will intercede for our church families, the community, and the city; that we can be unified and effective in our good works of love through discipleship, justice and evangelism.
Fasting can be a part of intercession to expedite answers to prayers, make our hearts tender, and act as a time of dedication, surrender and/or repentance. It helps us humble ourselves and recognize our dependence on God. If you are wanting and able, we invite you to participate with others in a 24-hour full or partial fast from food. Come to the Portal during your prayer times to pray with other church members, or you can pray from home if you’re unable to join us in person. We will have prayer leaders at the Portal throughout the 24 hours to facilitate each hour as well as guided prayer handouts. We hope to see you there!
